Ministerialists
[edit]I feel like the "Ministerialists and Oppositionists" article topic is a bit of a genius solution because the same people could be either without any change in faction (which confuses the bejesus out of a lot of people, and has led to a lot of mangled party references in relation to early WA politicians over the years), and it allows for that system to be explained in one coherent topic.
I actually know relatively little about early WA politics so am going to struggle to be too useful without a lot of further reading (I have a few books on WA politics, but I think the oldest is about Charlie Court), but I can have a bit of a try. There is a bit of a further discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australian politics that suggested going further and creating an Early political factions of Western Australia or Early political factions of Australia (with sections for each state), which also seems like a good potential solution to me. Thoughts? The Drover's Wife (talk) 10:19, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, it certainly is slippery - and probably worse than in other states because of the 1900s Kidston Labor split mangling the non-Labor side of politics in new and different ways to everywhere else in Australia. I'm glad that there's something to link to because the "Ministerialist" and "Oppositionist" references to explain MPs alignment (which we originally took from the parliamentary register) need explanation, but an in-depth one is going to be a bit of a project. It took me months and months of reading to try and get a handle on what went down in SA and it might take the same again here. The Drover's Wife (talk) 20:24, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
Just in passing saw your message on IgnorantArmies' talk page about WACAE/Churchlands/Nedlands and such: if you'd like to have a crack at those I'm definitely up for helping, I lived near Churchlands Green in Perth and I was always pretty interested in the history of these things. Thanks your welcome & need your councils about my red account color status.
[edit]Today Friday, march 10th, 11:35
Hi JarrahTree,
FIRST, THANKS a lot for your welcome, and congratulations for your wonderful crow of your account's banner. It may me think of NAF maker using it as signature ;)
I'm a french, I love practicing ENglish and used wikipedia since many years at any occasion to learn any subject & disambiguate doubts sometimes, I love wikipedia.
SINCE MORE THAN one years or pearhaps two , I created my account Efkr because I regulary verified when listeming music and checking the musicians FR and EN pages, or the article was missing in one or both sides, or incomplete, so I said to myself "Why don't you create or complete it?", but until now, I just add minor things, anyway!.. 2017 has come to be the year of action ;) OK, so those last days I was reading templates to start & I will consult the links kindly send in your message.
LET's SEE PLEASE together how you can help me with my first ERROR message encountered one hour ago as I was adding me in lists of active users for my recent actions
MY ACCOUNT STATUS is actually in red color AND when passing the mouse's cursor on it in the list of active users, I'm informed that "User:Efkr (Page doesn't exist)" You can verify it on this pages where I was adding me one hour ago as a new active member of WikiProject (with a resume of actions) and in WikiProjectMusic page at:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Musicians
and
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Music/Participants#E 14. Efkr (talk · contribs) – Ensure comfort in reading articles (aerate big paragraphs, add links & 1rst letter MAJ), revise contents for all musician's articles.
I may thanks you in advance for any action & response and merci again for all.
Best Kind regards,
Eric Florent Koffi RICHARD as Efkr

Portal:Adelaide
[edit]Adelaide is on the agenda for a portal, but I thought I'd do some more work on BNE/MEL/PER/SYD first. I'm thinking of deleting the "In the news" boxes from all of them – Wikinews seems to be more a case of Wikiolds – eg the latest entry for Perth is that Alan Bond has died. Any comments? As for Perth, WA – Done – there's a Perth, Tasmania, as well, so I guess it needed disambiguation in any event. Bahnfrend (talk) 11:55, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

About: Humo(u)rous redlinked user categories
Hi JarrahTree,
Yes, it's true, I have no sense of humour.
For example: in the context of legal government work, I would never do something as ridiculous as claim that I had changed my name to an unpronounceable symbol, sign all my internal work emails as and insist that I be referred to as "unpronounceable symbol".

Expletives deleted?
[edit]In this edit the closing strike-through tag appears to be incorrect. I think you intended only to express "expletive deleted" but it's possible that you intended to strike the entire comment. Could you please correctly close the strike-through tag to avoid any confusion, before I reply. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:15, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

New Page Review - Newsletter No.4
[edit]
Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 816 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!
But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.
Stay up to date with recent new page developments and have your say, read THIS PAGE.

Fair Use in Australia campaign
[edit]- I'm writing you this followup message, as you took the time to vote in support of a Wikipedia banner campaign for the introduction of Fair Use in Australia.
- After much planning and coordination with the WMF, Australian Digital Alliance, and Electronic Frontiers Australia, as of Monday the banner-campaign is active on English Wikipedia to a portion of logged-out readers in Australia (technical details). The banners direct people to this page on Meta: FairCopyrightOz. That page, alongside lots of information, further directs people towards the campaign website faircopyright.org.au where Australians are invited to write to their local MP to express support of Fair Use. If you are interested in supporting this campaign, please, send a letter yourself using the template letter provided at that link.
- Furthermore, and with the support of the ADA & EFA, we have received fantastic media coverage - with article "Fair Use: Wikipedia targets Australians in bid to change the law" appearing on page 2 of the Sydney Morning Herald and page 10 of the Melbourne Age on Monday's edition. It was for a time the 3rd most read article the Fairfax website, and Fair Use was "trending" on Twitter in Australia. We are running the account @FairCopyrightOz on twitter, and we are tracking other press-mentions on the talkpage on Meta.
- Today, day 2, we published a detailed post about the campaign on the Wikimedia Blog, ran an "Ask Me Anything" Q&A session on the Australia page in Reddit, and [by happy coincidence of timing] the article History of fair use proposals in Australia appeared on the en.wp mainpage as a Did You Know. [The creation of that "history of..." article was a specific request arising from in the community consultation in which you voted].
- And, most importantly, in a little more than a day nearly 800 letters to MPs have been sent encouraging them to support the Productivity Commission's recommendation to adopt Fair Use in Australia. I urge you - please add your own message.
- Sincerely, Wittylama 16:08, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
A cup of coffee for you!

You asked me on my page about the difference between Wikipedia:WikiProject Open and Wikipedia:WikiProject Open Access. The best answer that I can give is that personally, if something is OA then I tag it as OA and not open, and if something is open but not OA or Wikipedia:WikiProject Software, then I tag it as "open".
I now realize that the Open Movement is more segmented than I thought in 2012 when I set up WikiProject Open Access. I thought there was a universal concept of openness, and that anyone who had questions about open access, open educational resources, open licenses, or open source software could ask questions in a central place. With some others I combined the open access project and some others under an "open project" umbrella. I regret that - I think this has only confused more people. Even after thinking about this a lot I am not sure what is correct. If you have an idea, then I would support you or anyone else who could make a plausible proposal. I am ready to say "yes" to any number of ways forward that I know you could propose, and cannot imagine that anything anyone might try would make things worse. The separation also made it harder to get some automated reports. Maybe you saw that in the last week meta:Community Tech/Popular pages bot has come back better than ever after ~2 years of being down. Tools like this make WikiProjects much more valuable, and about 2 years ago with software changes, a range of tools went down. I hesitate to jump into cleaning up any WikiProject just because I feel like the meta:Community Tech team is rolling out improvements so quickly that the nature of WikiProjects might change in 1-2 years. To directly answer your question - if I knew that the new tools could recognize WikiProjects and "subprojects" or "task forces", then I would be tagging OA articles as "project open subproject open access", just because I still have some hope of overlapping content about openness when applicable. However, I think the safer thing to do is tag OA content with OA at least, and maybe also with the open tag. I expect that in the future all these lists will be managed in Wikidata and easier to manipulate, because a big problem to address in the future is having more uniform WikiProject sorting across languages. Whatever you do, I think it will have an impact now and in the future, but I cannot predict what the most lasting sorting system is. I wish I could be concise in giving you an answer but my own thoughts in this space are confused. If it helps, I could offer to talk through by video or phone chat, but I think I would support anything you suggested. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:13, 23 May 2017 (UTC) |
